Artist's Comments

An illustration for the Brother's Grimm fairytale, Cat-Skin - read it, if you dare!

I had to keep this under wraps for a bit because it was for a contest with anonymous entries. But that's all done now, so here it is :)

edit: Thanks so much for all the comments! I really appreciate it!

It's a disturbing little story, isn't it? I had the same problem when I first read it: I thought she'd married her pervert dad! Then I realized she'd married some other king and everything was okay :)

Also, I'm in no way condoning or supporting the fur industry - it's just part of the story.

I made a little step-by-step. Not really a tutorial, because there's not much to learn from it. But you can see it here: [link]

Cat-Skin by ~bluefooted is an outstanding illustration. Beautiful use of textures and colors really make for an interesting blend of materials, the artwork almost has a traditional feel to it! A very unique style by a very talented artist! (Featured by `cosmosue)

Catskin is one of my all-time favorite fairytales, despite its sometimes dark nature. I'm actually do my own project with this same story and seeing your picture gives me a lot of inspiration to finish mine! 83 This is simply beautiful. Really.

I have ALWAYS loved this story. Ah, she looks so sad. I never imagined the animals so incompletely skinned, but it looks marvelous. Talk about a hard road to love. Perhaps I should write a novel about her.

I wanted to favorite this, but I get that feeling with all of your deviations :P It's beautiful.

How did it do in the contest?

Once again, your detail is amazing! That dress is wonderful, and it's contrasts perfectly with the erm, catskins.
:iconjimdear:

Forgive the lack of a decent comment but this is fantastic. The imagination and detail that went into the cat coat is amazing. Wonderful.
