An illustration for the Brother's Grimm fairytale, Cat-Skin - read it, if you dare!

I had to keep this under wraps for a bit because it was for a contest with anonymous entries. But that's all done now, so here it is :)

edit: Thanks so much for all the comments! I really appreciate it!

It's a disturbing little story, isn't it? I had the same problem when I first read it: I thought she'd married her pervert dad! Then I realized she'd married some other king and everything was okay :)

Also, I'm in no way condoning or supporting the fur industry - it's just part of the story.

I made a little step-by-step. Not really a tutorial, because there's not much to learn from it. But you can see it here: [link]

Cat-Skin by ~bluefooted is an outstanding illustration. Beautiful use of textures and colors really make for an interesting blend of materials, the artwork almost has a traditional feel to it! A very unique style by a very talented artist! (Featured by `cosmosue)

i luv the juxtaposition of the threatening animals with the almost fragile looking femme. it adds a subdued violence to a delicately lovely scene. it perfectly encapsulates both the beauty and horror of the orig the story. very cool!

The dress pops out at the viewer so wonderfully, and it is a lovely design. I also like the crosshatching. I'd wish you luck in the contest, but I don't know if the results are actually out yet. Oh, well...good luck! :#1: (but if they are already out, how did you fair?)

It's definitely beautiful... I love all the detail. Actually I'm not entirely sure why but this one reminds me of Klimt

I always though that was a rather messed up fairy tale :)

I love the details, they're amazing and the Cat-skin looks like it took such a long time to draw. Really wonderful work
